Announcement regarding next stages of Mathematical Olympiad in 2020-2021

The following announcements are made with regard to the next stages of the Mathematical Olympiad. It is to be noted that the pandemic situation in the country is evolving and all decisions and dates in the following may need to be revised at short notice. These decisions are taken after due deliberations at various levels and approved by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, the government-appointed supervisory body for the Mathematical Olympiad. official Website

A. Online Mathematical Olympiad 2020-2021 Orientation Camp (MOOC):
Mathematical Olympiad Orientation Camp (MOOC) is being held online from May 1 to May 15, 2021 and it was announced on Olympiad website of HBCSE on April 24, 2021.

No selection tests will be held during or after this camp.
All students maintaining a minimum of 80% attendance in the online MOOC will receive a Certificate of Participation.

B. Participation in International Mathematical Olympiad:
the online International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO; July 14–24). However, the pandemic situation will be reviewed again around 15 June, and a final decision will be taken regarding participation in this event. Participation in online IMO will only be possible from HBCSE, Mumbai. 

C. Selection of Indian team:

Top 30 (Class XI or below category) + 6 (Class XII category) + 5 (girl students irrespective of the number of girl students qualifying in the class XI or below category. No girl student from class XII is eligible to qualify in the girls category.) would have constituted the Junior Batch of IMOTC 2021 if it were held. These students will be included in a list, L1, say

The top six students in the merit list of MOOC 2021 will be selected provisionally for the Indian team.

  • A student must maintain a minimum attendance of 80% in the online MOOC. Failure to do so will automatically disqualify the student from consideration in the team selection.
  • HBCSE will announce the provisional team for IMO on June 10, 2021.
  • A selected student must submit a written undertaking to confirm agreement to the following, by June 15, 2021. In case this is not received, the next student on the merit list will be offered a seat on the team.
  • There would be a Minimum Stay Period (MSP) at HBCSE, Mumbai for every selected student.
  • IMO: July 12, 2021, to July 22, 2021
